Many Nepali students think September is always the better choice. Sometimes it is, but January also has real advantages you should consider before making your decision.

1. You Do Not Lose a Year

If you are not ready for September 2026 because your IELTS result came late, your documents took longer, or you needed more time to prepare, January 2027 lets you start your degree just four months later instead of waiting a whole year. That makes a big difference.

2. Smaller Class Sizes, More Personal Attention

January classes are usually smaller than those in September. This often means you get more access to lecturers, a closer group of classmates, and more support at the start, which is especially helpful when you are adjusting to a new country.

3. Less Competition for Admission

September is the busiest time for applications at Irish universities. In January, there is less competition, and some courses that were full in September may have open seats. If you have good grades and apply early, you have a better chance of getting into your preferred program.

4. Better Timing for the Job Market

If you start your Master’s in January and finish by late 2027 or early 2028, you will enter the Irish job market when many companies are hiring for the new year. This is often a busier hiring period than the middle of summer.

5. Your Degree and Work Rights Are Identical

A Master’s degree that starts in January is the same as one that starts in September. You get the same degree certificate, the same QQI Level 9 accreditation, and the same 2-year Stamp 1G post-study work permit after you graduate. There is no disadvantage to starting in January.

Visa Requirements for January 2027 Intake

The visa process for January is the same as for September. You need the same documents, apply through the same Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, and follow the same rules. Here is a quick checklist:

Your course must be on the ILEP list. Before you apply, check that your course is on Ireland’s International List of Eligible Programs (ILEP). If it is not listed, you cannot get a student visa. Most programs at recognized Irish universities are on the ILEP list, but always double-check.
